‘More art, less decoration’ is the ethos behind Nordic design collective FEATHR. Founded by husband and wife duo Tom and Anne Puukko in 2014, along with Creative Director Oliver Green, a general lack of choice in the wallpaper market at the time fuelled the idea for a new designer wallpaper brand made by artists.
With backgrounds in advertising, the founders saw a gap in the wallpaper industry after struggling to find a unique designer wallpaper for their London home that didn’t cater to conventional tastes. They quit their day jobs and set to work creating a digitally native designer wallpaper brand that offered an alternative to the repetitive styles and designs on the market.
FEATHR promotes emerging and established artists, celebrating innovation in art and design and using digital technology to bring new ideas and styles to interiors. With a focus on the story behind the design, the brand works with artists from a wide range of disciplines, from expressionist painters to experimental photographers and tattoo artists.
Artists on the roster include American fine artist Kiki Slaughter, award-winning Finnish expressionist painter Reeta Ek, tattoo artist Liam Sparkes and Berlin graffiti duo 44Flavours. FEATHR uses a range of methods to discover new talent, such as crowdsourcing and crowd-curation. Original artworks are applied to not just wallpaper, but designer cushions and upholstery fabrics.
Last year FEATHR expanded their product range from wallpaper, fabrics and cushions to include chairs with the launch of a seating range with fellow Nordic brand Flokk. In support of young artists of all disciplines, recent efforts include a Scholarship Award for university students and a Fourth Wall Fund for theatrical and set designers. We can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for FEATHR.
